The Project
The African Leadership Academy (ALA) is a residential high school outside of Johannesburg that is rigorously preparing Africa’s next generation of leaders. USC is forming a partnership with the ALA which will leverage the collective strength of Africa's top high school and the top Honors College in the United States to:
Prepare ALA / USC alums for global leadership roles.
Create a sustainable cohort of 15-20 pan-African students at USC, creating a sense of community for ALA alums in South Carolina.
Enrich the USC peer learning experience with the diverse social, religious, governmental, and cultural contexts of ALA alums.
Foster bilateral leadership, economic and cultural development opportunities in both the United States and Africa.
Who We Are
We are students at USC who are passionate about supporting the future of Africa and who see the incredible value scholars from the ALA could bring to Columbia. Whether in the classroom, the residence hall, the intramural field, or anywhere across campus, we believe there is a mutual benefit to this partnership which could be transformational to our own community and the communities back in Africa that the ALA students will return to after graduation.
The Impact
Our first students will be arriving in the Fall for four years in the honors college. Through this fundraiser, we hope to demonstrate that our university is excited to host these students. We ask for your support in this mission. Your donation will not only help fund the USC / ALA scholarship program but will also show that a warm embrace is waiting in August for these students who will be flying thousands of miles away from home to become Gamecocks! Gifts of any size are greatly appreciated!
