Class of 1985

Back in 2009, milestone classes at the UofSC School of Medicine created a friendly reunion competition to promote 100% giving participation from each class and high attendance at the annual Alumni Reunion Weekend.

With the support of the Class Reunion Committee, made up of co-chairs from each class, this year’s competition will be bigger, better, easier and more fun. We’ve created a special online platform dedicated to our individual reunion classes that features a donor wall and giving thermometer. If you have given to the UofSC School of Medicine during this fiscal year (beginning July 1, 2019), it has already been added to the class giving thermometer. Otherwise, we invite you to join your classmates and make a gift today to support the Alumni Scholarship Fund.

Plus, by taking part in our friendly competition, your class will have a chance to win bragging rights that will be highlighted for the remainder of the year on our website, along with a prize award (or four) during our Alumni Reunion Weekend, which is slated for March 6-8, 2020! This year’s award categories include:

  • Top Docs Award – awarded to the class that contributes more than any other reunion class during the fiscal year of their reunion. It all counts – gifts, pledges, and bequests made to the UofSC School of Medicine Columbia.
  • Golden Piggy Bank Award – awarded to the class that has the highest percentage of giving during the fiscal year of their reunion. Same as above – everything counts!
  • Golden Gift Award – awarded to the class that has the greatest number of gifts in the fiscal year of their reunion. Whether it’s $1, $50 or $500, we are looking for as many gifts as possible, regardless of the amount.
  • Golden Stethoscope Award – awarded to the class that has the highest percentage of attendance at the Alumni Reunion Weekend.

The deadline for gifts to be counted is Friday, March 6, 2020

Why the Alumni Scholarship Fund? Today, most medical students graduate with more than $200,000 of debt. Given the high costs associated with a medical education and the amount of debt these students incur, support for those striving to become future physicians is a top priority, particularly for culturally and economically underrepresented medical students. Your gift to the Alumni Scholarship Fund impacts not only students but also the future of heath care in South Carolina and beyond.
